Greg & Scott Pick Al Pacino's 10 Best Performances

Image
Scott and Greg here again, and today we're going to take turns reviewing our picks for the ten best performances of our favorite living actor. At the beginning of his Hollywood career, Pacino was a methodical emotionally intense actor. In later years he's amped up the hoo hah, and can get somewhat over the top. But it's his performances in these ten films, that almost make us forgive him for making out with Adam Sandler in drag in Jack and Jill.  On another note, for those of you who don't use Facebook and may be having difficulty with the rather annoying comment feature on this website, please feel free to email any comments to Scott at   scottgingold@mail.com  81 81 81 82 81 10. Greg and Scott Do Star Wars

Image
SCOTT DOES THE INTRO: Oh, Star Wars. Where do I start? For some people, Star Wars is almost a religion. There are some devoted fan boys and girls out there who stood in line for days when The Force Awakens and Rogue One came out... in costume. I remember when I was 19 when The Phantom Menace was released; I was working at Taco Bell at the time and we had just gotten in a shipment of the kid's meal toys tied into the new movie. Well you'd think we were giving out free tacos, that's how swamped we were with grown men and women buying kid's meals. Even when all we had left were Jar Jar Binks toys, they still flew off the shelves. My brother Greg and I are doing the Siskel and Ebert thing. Below are dueling reviews of the three original Star Wars films. It should be noted ahead of time that while we appreciate the movies, neither of us are giant fans, but to those who are... May the force be with you. 82 1977 - STAR WARS EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE 83 SCOTT'S RE...

Alan Rickman's 10 Best Performances

Image
British actor Alan Rickman got his start on the stage and was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He got his big break in Hollywood playing the villain Hans Gruber in Die Hard. Rickman brought a sense of professionalism and class to every project he was involved in. We sadly lost him to cancer in 2016. 82  10. ALICE IN WONDERLAND - 2010 83  Rickman provided the voice of Absolem the caterpillar in Tim Burton's continuation of Lewis Carroll's story. The film itself is a bit of a mess but it's a gorgeous looking mess. Rickman's recognizable deep voice gives the caterpillar an intellectual yet arrogant quality. He repeatedly refers to Alice as stupid girl and yet she keeps going to him for advice. She even seems sad as he's about to enter his cocoon which is due mainly to the melancholy in his voice as he gets ready for his transformation. He's my favorite part in this otherwise overblown film. 9. THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY - 2005 84 Thi...

Best Twist Endings - SPOILERS!

Image
82 A good twist ending takes everything you've learned from the story and turns it on its ear. Some are shocking, some thought provoking. This is your last spoiler warning, I WILL ruin the endings if you haven't seen the films before. 10. ARRIVAL - 2016 83 Arrival appears to be an alien invasion film like Independence Day, but it forgoes the violence and takes a very cerebral approach to the sci fi material. Amy Adams plays linguistic expert Louise Banks. When mysterious spacecrafts appear all over the world, the US military asks Louise to help communicate with the aliens. Throughout the film we see clips of scenes in which Louise has a young daughter who gets sick and dies. Eventually Louise makes successful contact with the aliens and they teach her their complicated language. It is revealed that this was the point of their visit as learning the language allows one to see the past, present and future at the same time. The aliens needed us to learn the language so we c...
